Native Basketball for Thunder Bay Hoopsters
The Thunder Bay Native Basketball Association is seeking volunteers to help start a new aboriginal youth focused basketball club to serve Thunder Bay and the surrounding area. The club will be used to teach the game of basketball through skills and drills, clinics, camps, drop in basketball and eventually leagues and tournaments.
There will be emphasis on education and the student athlete. Aboriginal culture will be a part, using the seven sacred teachings: Love, Respect, Courage, Honesty, Wisdom, Humility and Truth .
TBNBA is an initiative of Aboriginal Team Ontario North, and is a part of a far north strategy of athlete and sport development. It is especially aimed at teaching basketball to disadvantaged Aboriginal youth.
It is hoped that this project, if successful, can be used as a model for other communities.
Needed are coaches , trainers and organizers of all types.
